Features of drying seeds and planting material
The key difference between seed material and commercial grain is the priority of preserving germination over drying speed. The germ dies when overheated, so seeds are dried at markedly lower heating temperatures and more slowly, releasing moisture gently without thermal shock.
Many seeds in this group are very small and light (grass, alfalfa, amaranth, beet seeds) and are easily carried off by the airflow - screens and an airflow regime suited to the fine fraction are needed. Pelleted and coated seeds require special care: it is important not to damage the protective coat carrying the treatment chemicals and not to overheat it.
